Crnja quotes Juraj Krizanic (1618-83), 'All nations curse foreign rule and consider it the worst shame, misfortune and humiliation ... the disgrace is less if a nation has been conquered by arms than if it has allowed itself to be fooled by alluring words and accepted the yoke of foreign rule of its own free will.
