Bands such as Washington’s Country Gentlemen, Boston’s Charles River Valley Boys, Los Angeles’s Kentucky Colonels (featuring legendary guitarist Clarence White), and New York City’s Greenbriar Boys all represented a new approach to the bluegrass style.

Leon Eric “Kix” Brooks (b. Shreveport, Louisiana, May 12, 1955; lead guitar, vocals) was a singer/ songwriter who had spent some time working in Alaska on the pipeline before settling in Nashville in the early 1980s where he established a successful career as a songwriter. Baker gave him the song “I Just Started Hatin’ Cheatin’ Songs Today” to record, and it was released a year later on GRC Records, out of Atlanta. ” In 1975 Bandy cowrote with LEFTY FRIZZELL a song recalling his rodeo days, “Bandy the Rodeo Clown,” his last hit for GRC. In that same year Bandy signed with Columbia, still under Baker’s guiding hand.
